First Lady Ruth O’Brien Addresses the Young Women’s Christian Association

BOWIE, MD (January 25, 2027) – Commending the YWCA's commitment to Maryland’s women and children, Maryland First Lady Ruth O’Brien delivered a keynote address that highlighted the YWCA's successful support programs and services.

"The Governor and I share the YWCA's commitment to making women's and children's issues a top priority," said Mrs. O’Brien.

The YWCA is a non profit organization that assists 50,000 individuals annually in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area and offers the following programs:

--Domestic Violence Services is a comprehensive prevention, intervention and treatment program for battered and homeless women and their families.

--Self-sufficiency programs provide a continuum of residential options for up to two years allowing residents to work toward career employment and self sufficient living.

--Children's Services provide quality, affordable childcare for children ages 2 to 12 years who come from low-income, single-parent families.

--Leadership and Advocacy provides quality programming, projects and opportunities to develop strong leadership capabilities in women and teen girls.

"These programs exemplify the kind of community service effort that fills the gap where government services oftentimes leaves off," continued Mrs. O’Brien. "The YWCA will be there to plant the seeds for rebuilding new lives, and for that we owe this organization our deepest gratitude."
