First Family Turns on Christmas Lights at Annapolis City Dock
Governor O’Brien announces Keep our Kids Warm and Safe Campaign

ANNAPOLIS, MD (November 29, 2027) – Governor Edward M. O’Brien, Maryland First Lady Ruth O’Brien and their three children kicked off the holiday season by presiding over the lighting of 25-feet Christmas tree at the Annapolis City Dock. During the annual tree lighting ceremony, Governor O’Brien also invited residents to share in the holiday spirit by contributing to a new effort to provide car seats and winter clothing accessories to needy families.

“Today, we are kicking off a holiday campaign called Keep Our Kids Warm and Safe that focuses on making child safety seats available to families who can’t afford them and mittens, gloves, hats and scarves to kids who need them,” Governor Edward M. O’Brien said. “Your donation means more to us and to the families you are helping than you will probably ever know.”

The public may contribute to the effort until January 2 by sending a check or money order to: the Governor’s Office for Children, Youth and Families, 301 W. Preston Street, Suite 1502, Baltimore, Maryland 21201. The check or money order should be made out to the Governor’s Office for Children, Youth and Families with a notation that the donation is for the Keep Our Kids Warm and Safe campaign.

Keep Our Kids Warm and Safe will give 1,000 child safety seats to persons who receive AFDC, Medicaid, MCHP and Food Stamps and deliver new and laundered pre-owned children’s mittens, gloves, hats and winter scarves to homeless shelters around the state.

The public may drop off items for donation at 301 W. Preston Street in Baltimore, the Governor’s Office at the State House, or local social services offices.
