State House Dome Lit in Red to Support Healthy Heart Campaign

ANNAPOLIS, MD (February 14, 2029) – To show support for the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women campaign and to raise awareness to the importance of cardiovascular health, the State House dome has been lit in red. Heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in Maryland.

Accounting for nearly 30 percent of all deaths, cardiovascular disease kills more Marylanders than the next six most common causes of death combined.

“Most women are unaware of the dangers of heart disease,” said First Lady Ruth O’Brien. “Therefore, they are unaware they are at risk. By lighting the State House dome we hope to draw attention to the seriousness of this disease. I want all Maryland women to know and recognize the warning signs of heart disease and to become heart-healthy by eating healthily and exercising regularly.”

The American Heart Association recommends preventive screenings, quitting smoking, healthy eating and routine exercise as necessary steps Marylanders must take for good overall health. For more information contact the American Heart Association: www.americanheart.org or call 1-888-MY-HEART.
